The website proposal is essentially a contract between the website developer and customer. It should, at minimum feature three important items: Scope, timeline and price. In addition, the proposal should be detailed in nature and should function to bridge both the client’s and developer’s expectations.
Every website needs to have the number of pages determined, labeled and any special functionality should be described. For example, one page may be a WordPress and another is an image gallery of your finest products. Both pages need to be accurately described so both parties will have the same understanding of how these pages will function.
The navigation structure (i.e. “nav summary”) explains how the navigation works in the website. It also shows the hierarchal relationship between pages as well as any special technology needed for displaying the navigation such mega menus, dropdown menus, breadcrumb navigation, search boxes, etc…
This is one of the most underreported and overlooked areas in a website proposal. Why? In many cases, the developer doesn’t want to tell the client “you need to do X, Y and Z in order for this project to be successful, on time and within the budget.” It requires a bit of leadership and some people struggle in this area. For example: If a client is required to Deliver six pages of copy (content collection) along with associated imagery, this effort needs to be clearly described along with formats, method of delivery and dates. In projects with larger budgets, the PalmettoSoft copywriter will perform many of these duties, but he still has to interact and coordinate with the client
